Pieter Wispelwey - Complete Duos/Rondo

Facts On this fourth installment of their critically acclaimed Schubert-Brahms pilgrimage, Pieter Wispelwey and Paolo Giacometti explore conflicting faces of Romanticism. The haunted virtuosity and unsettling intensity of Schubert's Rondo (D.895) is juxtaposed with the irresistible lyricism of Brahms' Violin/Cello sonata Opus 78, and the profound sensuousness of his Opus 120/1 Clarinet/Viola sonata. With these "new" guises of familiar repertoire, Pieter and Paolo - dubbed "masters of the Romantic duo" by The Strad - continue to open up ever more promising repertoire directions. "[Pieter Wispelwey and Paolo Giacommeti are] exceptionally imaginative and impassioned performers." (American Record Guide) "Fascinating, provocative, almost perverse." (Sunday Times)
