Powerplant - People In The Sun

Facts Powerplant's debut album People in the Sun quietly exploded online in 2019, thanks to a viral YouTube upload from Harakiri Diat that drew tens of thousands of listeners. It's playful, sun-faced artwork belied a 30-minute blast of synth-driven punk- hooky and haunting, somewhere between Gary Numan and bedroom DIY. Tracks like 'Dungen' struck a deep chord with their nostalgic vulnerability, helping the album earn cult status in the late-2010s punk underground. To mark six years since it's release, Zhykharyev has recorded 6 Years in the Sun Commentary Album, a 44-minute track (available on the CD edition) offering personal reflections on the record's creation. Since 2019, Powerplant has evolved into a full live band, with Zhykharyev now joined by members of London's noise-punk and experimental scenes: Karim Newble (Hitmen, Island of Love), Cajm (Jeshi, John Glacier), and Lloyd Clipston (Arms Race, Second Death).
