Yttling Jazz is led by Björn Yttling - a Swedish artist, writer & producer known primarily for his work with indie and alternative music. He’s the titular Bjorn in Peter Bjorn & John, co-wrote and produced Lykke Li from day one and has worked with acts like Robyn, Franz Ferdinand, Primal Scream, Tom Odell, First Aid Kit, The Pretenders, The Hives, Weezer among many others.

But very few people know that he is also a schooled jazz musician. "IIlegal Hit” is his first album-length journey into the genre in 20 years. Here, Björn allows jazz, the foundation of his musicianship, to merge freely with the indie and alternative music he has made his name with. Inspirations include electronic innovators like Brian Eno and Jean-Michel Jarre, score composer Nino Rota, and the towering giants Charlie Mingus and Thelonious Monk.

Through it all runs a hidden thread like a brook bubbling through the tundra: echoes of Björn’s childhood in northern Sweden, hockey games, mysticism and the nights that never end that set the backdrop for his first forays into music all those years ago.
