Mal Waldron - Sweet Love Bitter (Original Sountrack) - Limited Gatefold 180-Gram Vinyl (LP)

Facts Released in 1967 on the legendary Impulse! Label, Sweet Love, Bitter is one of pianist and composer Mal Waldron's most compelling and atmospheric recordings. Created as the soundtrack to Herbert Danska's film of the same name, the album serves as both a striking cinematic score and a powerful standalone jazz statement. Featuring an exceptional ensemble with George Coleman, Charles Davis, Dave Burns, George Duvivier, Richard Davis, and Alfred Dreares, Waldron blends lyrical themes, dark harmonies, and adventurous improvisation into a deeply evocative portrait of 1960s New York. Often associated with the life and legacy of Charlie Parker, the film's narrative finds a perfect counterpart in Waldron's moody and expressive compositions. A long-overlooked gem in the pianist's vast discography, Sweet Love, Bitter remains one of the most distinctive soundtrack albums of it's era and an essential title for collectors of spiritual, cinematic, and avant-garde jazz.
