Laura Karpman - American Fiction

Facts Vinyl LP pressing. Mutant, in association with Sony Masterworks, are proud to present the premiere physical release of Laura Karpman's Academy Award® Nominated score for the motion picture AMERICAN FICTION A tremendous piece of film music, harkening back to a seemingly lost, jazzier era of scoring - Laura Karpman finds beauty in sadness, and poetry in the absurd, as she sonically navigates the world of author Thelonius 'Monk' Ellison. Cord Jefferson's debut feature tells the story of Monk's head-on collision with the expectations of him as a black writer, as his satirical and cynical invention of a nom de plume accidentally brings momentum to his career, all in the shadow of tremendous grief within his family. The subject matter requires an incredible balance of tone, which Karpman executes masterfully. Available for the first time on any physical format, pressed on 140gm vinyl, with liner notes by composer Laura Karpman, and artwork by award winning illustrator Akiko Stehrenberger.
