Divers - One Million Crystals

Facts On October 25, the band Divers dives into the deepest darkness of alternative rock with their new album One Million Crystals. A contrast-rich and uncompromising portrayal of inner demons, mental illness and self-discovery through hypnotic and powerful soundscapes.

Divers' addictive alternative rock is defined by the contrasts between chaos and harmony, and how these shape our emotions and experiences. It may seem like a fragile thread, already reflected in the album's opening track, where frontwoman Lina Horner's hypnotic voice repeats the song title, “Keep My Mind,” over and over in the chorus... Almost like an affirmation used to hold on to one's mental clarity amid life's chaos.

With One Million Crystals, the band has created a journey from fear and confusion to enlightenment and self-empowerment. Lina says, “The theme wasn't planned from the start, but I think it depends on what phase of life you're in when you write the songs. Things you or friends around you brood over, music you listen to. The thread is probably still demons and mental illness, a longing for light, harmony and balance.”

The title track explores the fear of uncertainty and how facing it can lead to a deeper understanding and stronger bonds with other people. It is a portrayal of standing on the brink of collapse yet continuing to fight, capturing the human capacity to handle adversity. Later on “Sparkling Through the Sound That Set Them Free,” we find ourselves in a dream about letting the tears that come from life's suffering glitter through whatever triggers them.

Finally, the band explores the paradox of our relationship with danger in the driving, explosive track “I'm Not Afraid.” Divers reminds us that there is strength in facing the unknown, and that through this process we can find a new sense of control and understanding. To be afraid yet still stand, stand up and keep going. On One Million Crystals, Divers embraces the dull and creates an atmosphere where alternative rock is infused with experimental, psychedelic and suggestive elements. The result is a soundscape where rock blends seamlessly with brutally beautiful indie ballads.

Divers was formed in 2018 as a side project to Lina Horner's solo project but quickly developed into a joint project. One Million Crystals is released digitally and on vinyl on October 25 via Little Low Recordings.
