Billie Holiday - Collections

Facts Nicknamed "Lady Day", Holiday had a seminal influence on jazz music and pop singing. Her vocal style, strongly inspired by jazz instrumentalists, pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo. She was known for her vocal delivery and improvisational skills, which made up for her limited range and lack of formal music education. This collection includes her versions of 'Georgia On my Mind', best known from Ray Charles, 'These Foolish Things', also covered by Bryan Ferry and the popular jazz standard 'Summertime' which even was listed on the pop charts of the time at number twelve, the first time the jazz standard charted.
