Facts Post-punk band from Manchester; Magazine, with their debut album, considered as one of the post- punk era's major jump-o? points. 'Real Life' caries a darkly ice-age atmosphere throughout, with the outstanding keyboard work of Dave Formula and twisted vocals from Howard Devoto.We open with "De?nitive Gaze", which is a prelude for the album to lure you straight in to "MyTulpa", a deceptively happy song with a strong punk attitude. And part of this album's quality lies in it's dark baroque sound and "Shot By Both Sides" gives you the perfect example. An album for the brooding, night owls who can't be bothered to make something out of their lives, and yet want a bit of cynicism to get on with their lives.
